Research & Projects Assistant

Circa £24,000

London

This is an exciting new Research & Projects Assistant opportunity at Lumos, playing an important role in the development and efficient operations of the Department. You’ll provide coordination and support to the Research Department across a wide range of activities.

Lumos is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded by J.K. Rowling.

Our vision is of a world where all children have the opportunity to grow up and thrive in loving, nurturing, protective families.  We believe that children belong in families not orphanages and we aim to achieve our vision by 2050. We will do this by casting light onto the causes of institutionalisation and producing high-quality, compelling evidence of our long term, sustainable solutions.

Data and evidence are at the heart of everything we do. Key to this is robust research and you will help co-ordinate and support the work of the Research Department, with project management, planning, desk research, liaison, knowledge curation and administrative tasks. From co-ordinating research ethics processes and advisory group meetings to supporting the Director with special assignments, you will be an integral part of the department.

Communications will also form part of your remit, and you’ll liaise with colleagues in various departments, both here and overseas, to ensure that research-related publications and other materials are accurate and effective. Occasional international travel may be required.

Driven by a strong commitment to children’s rights and international development, you’ll be an excellent project manager with highly developed planning and organisational skills. Your knowledge and experience of research methods, including study design, analysis and reporting, will be backed by a proven capability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

This is a team environment, but you must also be able to work on your own initiative and manage and prioritise your workload. Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential; we are also looking for excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail.

To enable us to make safer recruitment decisions we use the Disclosure & Barring Service to vet candidates as part of our selection process.
